Public lands are a national treasure. Just being able to experience real freedom and escaping the everyday pressures civilization brings is priceless. I wander public lands all the time and it brings real peace of mind. Therein lies the problem of the concept of private property. If all land was private most people would be confined to asphalt and concrete. As many are confined back east. I believe those not able to experience the peace of just being alone are more subject to crime and drugs and so on. We not only need these public lands need to encourage those not so fortunate to live next to them to visit these places. To see these great game herds and unoccupied space is truly a unique experience. If these public lands end up in private hands these game herds will disappear overnight. Not all but a great many livestock operators who graze public lands would kill everything that eats grass to make for more grazing for livestock. It is unfortunate our public lands are not better managed. If the states get control of them they will be sold to special interests overnight for a penny on the dollar. If that ever happens then to my mind America will not be worth defending. In fact giving what is happening now with gay marriage, drugs, abortion an out of control national debt and so on I know more than a few people already questioning what is worth defending.
