If we don't care about our sovereignty enough to secure our borders, then we might as well go ahead and do what will likely be done in 100 years anyway. At least we would get PEMEX while it still has reserves in the ground.
Considering that most of the retirees living in Mexico are American and that Mexican Nationals want work in the US this might actually make sense. And, hey, it's no crazier than maintaining the status quo and granting blanket amnesty every 20 years or so. At least the country would get something in return.
Imagine something like this:
President Obama says to the president of Mexico, "Hey Rick, have a seat.
"Here's how it's gotta go down Rick. We are annexing Mexico. Hold, on, hold on, hear me out here. You and your people will be taken care of, and you can keep all the money you've stolen. Same goes for your military and police.
"But I'm sending troops into Mexico City today and let's not make a fuss and get anybody on either side shot, Ok?
"I've got some rules here I've written on the back of this envelope, and whenever one of your states pass these few little requirements they can become a state of America, at which time the citizens of those states become citizens of America with all the rights that come with that status.
"So I'll need you to go home and tell your people, and we'll talk every week or so until we've got the bugs worked out.
"Yeah, it's not like anybody else in the world can really do much about it. Sure Fidel and Hugo are gonna whine at the UN but so what? We all know this is gonna be best for everybody."
Mind you, we would probably need to annex all of Latin America, since 40% of illegal immigrants come from places other than Mexico. No doubt that the president of Guatemala would be on the phone to the White House in 15 minutes asking "whadda we gotta do?"
