Bob, that's some gust!
I fear high winds more than any other weather event we get here in central New York. We can cope with the cold, snow, rain, etc., but there is no defense
against winds. The houses are sturdy, but the neighborhoods are full of old trees, many of which are growing much too close to the houses.
Warm spell here - temps 25 - 35 all week. This is usually our coldest week of the year.
Capt. Bob Silence in the face of evil is itself evil: God will not hold us guiltless. Not to speak is to speak. Not to act is to act. ~ Dietrich Bonhoeffer [Bonhoeffer was a Lutheran minister in Germany who was slowly strangled to death with a piano wire, by the Nazis, after he spoke out against their evil acts.]The spread of evil is the symptom of a vacuum. Whenever evil wins, it is only by default: by the moral failure of those who evade the fact that there can be no compromise on basic principles. ~ Ayn Rand
Pines are shallow-rooted trees and can go over in a strong wind, especially if the soil is wet. I've transplanted a lot of them, even very large ones.
Oaks have a tap root and are more deeply anchored.
..., but the days are getting longer.
How did I get carried away on this subject? Maybe spring fever.
Capt. Bob We contend that for a nation to try to tax itself into
prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift
himself up by the handle. Winston Churchill (1903)

"Lake effect," for those of you not living downwind of the Great Lakes, is what happens when arctic air moves across the warmer waters of the lakes, picking up moisture, and depositing it in the form of snow in my driveway.
